I started joining fanlistings in the fall of 2006. I had recently left LiveJournal and switched to WordPress, and I saw it as a fun way to list "interests". I had wanted to start a second domain, and some spoken lyrics in Evanescence's Sweet Sacrifice really caught my eye (sidenote: to date, all of my domain names have been taken from Evanescence lyrics). When The Open Door was released at the beginning of October, I applied for a few fanlistings related to it.
Out of 4, I was approved for the Lacrymosa fanlisting, which became Set Your Guilt Free. I immediately applied for The Last Song I'm Wasting On You and was approved shortly after. Set Your Guilt Free and Run went live October 21st and 23rd, respectively. I don't do fanlistings for the sake of numbers; I only join or apply if I really care about something. I also tend to apply for only a couple listings at a time, so that I can be sure to get any approved ones put up before being approved for more. I suppose my mind sees it as a responsible method, and being responsible with my listings is important to me as I am relatively new to it. Outside of fanlistings, I have been creating/maintaining my own websites for 5 or 6 years now. Almost 3 years ago I went through the domain registration process and created shatteredshardsofme.net, my primary domain, which is currently where you can find my joined listings. Somewhere in there I also owned silently-broken.com, which was mainly used to host others, but was left to expire due to lack of participation by the people I was hosting. What I know of HTML and CSS I have taught myself from books and through experience (I used to design S1 overrides and S1 custom styles on LJ, which is where I picked up a lot of my CSS knowledge). I'm (very) slowly chipping away at PHP now, the desire of which to learn prompted by WordPress. My Photoshop skills are self-taught through playing around with the tools and the occasional online tutorial. The Dream In Darkness Network went live on November 27, 2006 and is on its first layout. The images were created with Photoshop 7 using a photograph I took in the summer of '06; the brushes used are by Vanilla Design. All coding was done in MS Notepad. |
